Every athlete participating in contact sports should wear a mouthguard. For this reason, it is mandatory in many sports. In most martial arts, a mouthguard is just as essential as boxing gloves, hand wraps, headgear, and other protective equipment. It is also standard gear in many contact sports.

Contrary to common belief, a mouthguard not only protects the jaw, teeth, lips, and gums from potentially serious injuries but also helps reduce the risk of concussions in sports where hard impacts occur between the upper and lower jaw.

Full-contact sports where mouthguards should be used or are mandatory:

• Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, K1, MMA, Karate, Judo, Wrestling, and related martial arts.

Contact sports where mouthguards should be used or are mandatory:

After each use, rinse the mouthguard thoroughly with lukewarm water and let it air dry. Avoid storing the damp mouthguard in a closed container for extended periods, as this can cause mold growth.

Always store it in an open container with good ventilation.

Occasionally clean the mouthguard more thoroughly by rinsing it under running water and gently brushing with a toothbrush, but do not use cleaning agents, denture cleaners, or toothpaste.

Replace the mouthguard at least once a year.
